Zero Waste California

Earth Day 2008: Message from the Chair

Dear Californians, Board Chair Margo Reid Brown

On this 38th anniversary of Earth Day, we celebrate the progress California has made in protecting the health of its residents and visitors and the efforts the State has made to protect our natural wonders and resources.

California’s commitment to the environment is unmatched by any other state. We can be proud of the efforts which have made us the nation’s leader in waste reduction and recycling. The eyes of the world are upon us as we continue to pursue innovative approaches to using our resources in effective and efficient ways.

The California Integrated Waste Management Board pledges to continue our efforts to reduce waste and encourage recycling. The principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle not only protect the land by reducing reliance on landfills, they help reduce harmful greenhouse gases which are a leading contributor to global warming and climate change.

I continue to call on all Californians to do their part to help reduce their carbon footprint on this planet. Learn more about how you can protect our Earth by visiting www.zerowaste.ca.gov for information and tips on living green.
